We used to have it regularly when I was younger, either on the side with a salad or, my favourite, with ham in a freshly baked stottie or bread bun, still warm from the oven and with best butter... Mmmm I can almost smell it now!
Well, I got a bit nostalgic at the weekend and decided to make some of this food stuff from my younger years, with a Canny Nana twist of course!
Now as I remember it my mother used to make pease pudding by simmering a ham hock, tied in a muslin cloth, with some yellow split peas and onions. My recipe isn't strictly traditional, I had a pork shank and a leek handy so, waste not want not!
Some of the meat goes into the pease pudding but the rest can be cut up and used in soups... or the dog can have pork for tea... hmmm... lucky dog!
You can get the recipe for my Pease Pudding in Nana Mary's Kitchen or you can buy a tin at your local supermarket, but it wont taste nearly as nice!
